During my time with the Avatar Art Department, I had the opportunity to work on a broad range of tasks, including storyboards, keyframe illustrations, set designs, look development art direction, and studio photography.
Keyframe illustrations play a vital role in the production process. They're often the first visuals created directly from the script. While they sometimes focus on set design, they’re more commonly used to establish the lighting and overall mood for an entire sequence.
These illustrations typically use wider camera angles than any specific shot described in the script, to showcase as much coverage as possible. In the final cut, the sequence is broken into multiple inserts, with tighter camera framing to highlight characters or key actions.
